Getting Started

Opening an account takes one conversation.

01

Tell us what your policy requires

Which tests, which panels, which employee groups. If you do not have a written policy yet, say so — it changes what we recommend.

02

We set up your account

Billing details, authorised contacts, and who is allowed to receive results. This is the part that prevents awkward phone calls later.

03

Send employees whenever you need to

Give the employee an authorisation or send us a note. They arrive with photo ID, we confirm the order, and we collect.

04

Results go to your authorised contact

Only to the people you nominated. Turnaround depends on the test ordered and, where applicable, Medical Review Officer review.

Testing Reasons

Why employers send people to us

Your written policy decides which of these apply to your workplace and when. We perform the collection specified on the paperwork your employee brings.

01

Pre-employment

Screening a candidate, typically after a conditional offer.

02

Random

Unannounced selections from a defined pool, on the frequency your program sets.

03

Post-accident

Testing after a workplace incident, within the window your policy or the governing regulation specifies.

04

Reasonable suspicion

Testing prompted by documented, observable indicators — usually recorded by a trained supervisor at the time.

05

Return-to-duty

Testing before an employee resumes safety-sensitive duties following a violation.

06

Follow-up

A scheduled series of unannounced tests after a return to duty, as directed by the process governing it.

DOT & Non-DOT

Know which rulebook applies.

If your employees hold safety-sensitive roles regulated by a U.S. Department of Transportation agency, their testing follows a federal procedure. Everything else follows your own written policy.

  • DOT testing follows the procedure set out in 49 CFR Part 40 and the rules of the relevant agency.
  • Non-DOT testing follows your written workplace policy and the panel you select.
  • The paperwork differs — a federal CCF for DOT, a standard chain-of-custody form otherwise.
  • Bring the order and we follow exactly what it specifies.

Day To Day

Sending an employee

Once your account is open, the day-to-day is deliberately boring — which is the point.

  • Give the employee an authorisation, or send us the details in advance.
  • They bring a valid government-issued photo ID.
  • They book a time — including group bookings.
  • We confirm the test against your account before anything is collected.
  • Results are released only to your authorised contacts.

Ongoing

A relationship, not a transaction

Consistency

The same procedure and the same paperwork for every candidate and every employee, so your program holds up when it is reviewed.

Availability

Open six days a week, with capacity to fit in urgent appointments — useful when a post-accident test cannot wait.

One contact

Questions about a specific employee, a form or a turnaround go to one place instead of a call centre.

A note on scope. LMC performs collections, testing and screening. We do not write your drug-free workplace policy, make employment decisions for you, or provide legal advice. What we can do is make sure the collection and documentation side is done the same way every time.
